Last June, Crack the Spine Literary Journal published a short story of mine in their 117th weekly issue. This journal’s innovative publishing model features a weekly selection of fiction and poetry online, from which the editors select their content for a quarterly print anthology. Toward the end of 2014, I received word that my piece would be included in the CTS print anthology. And not only that, but it was one of three pieces the editors had nominated for a 2014 Pushcart Prize! I’m pleased to share that the print anthology containing “Half a World Away” (formerly titled “Commando”) is now available for purchase. This piece about a young woman’s relationship to her body, her mother, and her art has had a long journey. Not a single word remains from the original draft I turned out to my fiction workshop. Thanks to the many friends, mentors, and colleagues who helped this story reach its finished form.
